A MAGAZINE curated by is a biannual publication which becomes the creative vision of a specially selected guest curator – in the past these have included Martin Margiela and Yohji Yamamoto. A BLOG curated by, on AnOther’s Reader, is a platform featuring the works of past curators in their own separate channels, and a running cultural commentary of the related fashion and art worlds. A BLOG was launched at the release of A MAGAZINE curated by Proenza Schouler, in June 2009. We speak to A’s editor Daniel Thawley about translating their unique editorial concept onto the digital format.

What does the blog allow you to do which the magazine does not?
The A BLOG is a current voice for the A team, to consistently report on new projects, fashion shows, exhibitions and other interesting events with our curators, other designers, artists and creatives. The magazine is a static object, a covetable key into the world of a fashion designer. The A BLOG continues to explore this world, offering deeper analytical insight into the magazine’s contents, opening up a window into the magazine for the uninitiated.

What have been some of the best submissions and ways of utilising the digital platform?
It has been exciting to feature exclusive photography by Erik Madigan Heck from Haider Ackermann’s Pitti show in Florence in June, as well as some of our more in-depth interviews with integral players in the ‘A’ story like Walter Van Beirendonck and Bernhard Willhelm. We continue to communicate with our past collaborators, and always try our best to bring you their latest and greatest news.

Many printed magazines worry they’ll suffer as people get so much content online, in what ways does A magazine reconcile this?
A MAGAZINE is and always will be a limited, collectible item – it cannot ever be replaced by the internet. The A BLOG and our pending iPad release for Issue 10 is a virtual link to the magazine and an essential part of the “A WORLD” that still upholds the integrity and unique nature of our original publication.

How have curator's responses differed with the online content?
The A BLOG is not content controlled by the curators like the magazine is, but more of a following of their work by the A Team. In cooperation with the designers, we're able to stay current with their runway shows, haute couture presentations, exhibition launches and other exciting news. We've found houses like the Maison Martin Margiela, Yohji Yamamoto, & Olivier Theyskens really responsive & helpful with continuing their stories via the blog. Olivier even re-ordered and added content to the pages of his 2003 magazine for the online release.

Do you find that new readers who might not have previously heard of the print magazine have come across you thanks to the blog?
Sure. The A BLOG readership is many times the size of the magazine's print run of 10,000 copies. It is wonderful to share the past issues with our readers online at www.amagazinecuratedby.com, and to begin to preview the next issue with Giambattista Valli on the A BLOG also.

A MAGAZINE curated by Giambattista Valli is released worldwide in late November 2010
