A Pair of Bums

AnOther's Lovers plump for simple pleasures this week, with a pair of bums winning the vote for Andrew Blyszak

Famously there have been a lot of nude pictures flying around of late, most of which have been launched on the world without their owners’ permission. Here at AnOther, we are big fans of the derriere – indeed, we held a day long celebration of all things bottom last year – so we wanted to redress the balance, providing a guilt-free glimpse of some amazing bums, as loved by brand strategist Andrew Blyszak and voted to victory by AnOther’s Lovers.

The acquisition of the perfect bottom has become a cultural fixation in the past few decades. Jane Fonda’s Buns of Steel was the fitness obsession of the eighties, and rightly so, as it was the only way to wear those terrifyingly high cut, neon leotards. But the nineties saw dark days for the bum, as waistbands on jeans plummeted and the so-called “builder’s bum" prevailed; the streets filling with unslightly cracks and parents pleading with their teenagers to pull up their trousers. Their entreaties were ignored, and in 1993, Alexander McQueen turned low-slung trousers into a fully-fledged fashion decision, debuting his “bumster” trousers that united gravity defying depth with stylistic élan to iconic effect. Since then, the bum has remained firmly on the public agenda, with 2014 seeing a particular upsurge thanks to Kim Kardashian’s tireless efforts to replace the “selfie” with the "belfie".

At AnOther, we’re happy with a pair of well matched anonymous bums with no apparent ulterior motives, so to celebrate their victory, we asked Blyszak to talk us through his criteria for the perfect bum, alongside a gallery of our favourite back view Loves.
