In Fashion Confidential, top designers share the visual references and making of stories behind their latest collections

Chanel’s Neon Baroque collection was a festival of soft colours. “Pastel and silver,” explained Karl Lagerfeld. “It was a flash I had one morning that I brought to reality in the décor and in the collection.” The reality was that amidst the cloud grey, pistachio green, and peachy pink tulles, laces, and chiffons were mercury-effect embroideries and leather mittens in hammered pewter. 1,300 hundred hours were spent by Chanel’s Metiers d’Art ateliers bringing the dresses to life, and here we exclusively reveal their behind-the-scenes work in progress.
