We consider the relaxed hairstyles for AnOther Magazine A/W14

Loose waves, tangled kinks, tumbling curls — the A/W14 issue of AnOther Magazine proffers a beautifully relaxed approach to hair, a languid style that was echoed in the recent S/S15 shows, with Céline, Chanel, Saint Laurent and Dior all presenting hair au naturel. Here, we comb through the AnOther Magazine A/W14 hair codes.

1. Fly-away
High ponytails, teased fringes and flyaway strands set the hair tone for Olivier Rizzo and Willy Vanderperre’s story which blends Prada tailoring with vintage Australian athletic tops and hoop earrings. Photographed on the outskirts of Antwerp, flyaway hair sits against a greying skyline, styled by Duffy.

2. Half-Up, Half-Down
Duffy also styled the hair for Olivier Rizzo and Jamie Hawkesworth's story within the issue, featuring earthy autumnal hues, woollen Céline coats and Fendi furs. He worked with a nine-model cast, including Mica Arganaraz, Helena Severin and Natalie Westling. Hair was primarily half-up, half-down, worn with thick black cat-eyes.

3. Flat Wave
Kid, Kinga R and Mijo Mihaljcic’s loose kinks entwine in Karen Langley and Blommers & Schumm’s minimalist story of sculptural silhouettes. "It has a slightly period feel to it, like a painting," explains hair stylist Naoki Kamiya. "It was a flat wave, not a sexy wave. The hair gave the models the same identity."

4. Wet Wave
Gareth McConnell photographed a cast of international actresses for the issue, including Gabriella Wilde, Kaya Scodelario and Chloe Pirrie. The hair had a relaxed, wet-look vibe, styled by Martin Cullen. “I was inspired by the inner beauty of each individual, so the hair became a fluid extension of their personality," he explains. "Sometimes playful or thoughtful, occasionally forceful but always beautiful.”

5. Raven Wigs
Saving the most dramatic until last, Sam McKnight crafted a superb raven wig for Kate Moss for one of her four cover stories, styled by Katy England and photographed by Collier Schorr. Both England and McKnight have worked with Moss since the early '90s – "It was something I discussed with Katy a week or so before the shoot, and we decided we would like to really transform Kate," McKnight explains. "I’ve styled her hair before in a very different dark wig and I know the colour really suits her. The hair looked very natural, razor-cut just below shoulder-length. It was like something you would have seen in Nova magazine. It was largely unbrushed for the whole shoot. In fact it was a little inspired by Katy England’s own look. It was messy, undone and natural." Sam McKnight has a colourful history with wigs – see his playful fashion week selfie collection here.
