Current times require a tough new outlook – not least in the way one chooses to dress. Such explains the ubiquity of metal hardware on the Autumn/Winter 2018 runways – chains, zips and studs punctuated designers’ collections, suggesting protection and rebellion alike.

Here, captured by Chris Rhodes and Chloe Grace Press for AnOther Magazine A/W18, a distillation of this resilient new mood: from Balenciaga’s heavyweight chains and caribiners, like those used by rock climbers, to Christopher Kane’s subversive top-to-bottom zippers. (“I do love a zip,” the designer told AnOther, “they can be really dodgy and I like that about them”.)
