Celebrating Another Magazine’s 10 year anniversary in February, ten of the world’s major fashion houses have each designed their ultimate fantasy cake. Curated by Jefferson Hack and artist, food stylist and cookery writer Annie Nichols this project will be on display as part of Eat the Designers in Selfridges’ Wonder Room Concept Store for one week commencing on 15 February.

For Part 2 of AnOther Birthday Cake, Nichols’ visual and written diary reveals insights into the creations from Givenchy and Gucci as Eat the Designers gradually takes form.

Annie Nichols: “This week I dipped into my large collection of vintage cookbooks, to research cake making of time gone by that still heavily influences cake making and sugar craft today. I’ve been meeting with the cake makers regularly to watch their progress. I’m learning lots every day! They are now working full steam ahead researching and sketching towards making the final cakes for the show Eat the Designer at Selfridges. Rachel Mount has been very busy creating beautiful sketches for her cake for Givenchy. I’ve included a few images from her inspiration for the project, taken from Givenchy’s designs themselves, which include ancient architecture and some of her previous work, including her stunning cake Gemstone Palms – where four mighty palms (we both share I love for Palm trees!) hold up her magnificent cake. Her cake for Givenchy will be a dream creation of pastillage icing. Andrew Stellitano is working full time on his creation for Gucci. A set of luggage was delivered to him this week that he will be copying to size in an edible form!"

AnOther Birthday Cake – Part 3 will be posted on Wednesday 9 February.
