Who? The Irrepressibles + Gabby Young & Other Animals.

What? An extravagant evening full of visual and audio audaciousness, as part of the Barbican’s Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion exhibition and Disruption: A Fashion Performance.

Why? Eccentric and energetic this night-time extravaganza will be showing some of the most extroverted and intriguing performers of the moment. Mixing classical orchestrations with pop melodies and soaring vocals 10-piece ‘performance orchestra’ The Irrepressibles, headed by composer and artist Jamie McDermott, are sure to create an extraordinary live spectacle. Inspired by David Bowie, Kate Bush and Queen their performances include conceptual sets, avant-garde dancing and outlandish costumes and make-up. Following suit, the classically trained singer Gabby Young and her troupe will be performing their ‘circus swing’ on the night. Having played at Glastonbury, Latitude, and The Secret Garden Party to much critical acclaim, this group have garnered a wide ranging fan base — from folk and antifolk, to jazz and burlesque.

Why? Not for the faint hearted, this evening of utter flamboyance and decadence is sure to entertain and enliven. With theatrical displays, over the top staging and an eclecticism of music these performers are pushing the boundaries of conventionalism.

When? The Irrepressibles + Gabby Young & Other Animals takes place at 8pm on 29 January at Barbican Hall, Silk Street, London, EC2Y 8DS.
