(1999) by Ugo Rondinone was this week's Most Loved. We caught up with Mandi to find out what made her choose it...
Why did you choose 'Where Do We Go From Here'?
I really felt the poignancy of its message on New Year's Day last year. I was so psyched about the new year, yet I felt a terrible emptiness. Rainbows are magic and special, but on this almost secret day of the year, usually a Bank Holiday, this image jolts the subconscious, and magnifies the fact we are all mere dots in the stratosphere. This trivialising of our existence, also serves to make you consider why you bother with what you do to get where you are. In this respect, it could be interpreted as quite grounding. And I like that.
What's the last thing you bought?
A pale blue blanket from Hermès for my sofa, bought in the spirit of Ugo Rondinone's 2001 installation, also in rainbow letters, 'Hell, Yes!', and the fact it's the start of a new year.
What are your hopes and dreams for 2011?
I'm planning a road trip from Phoenix to The Grand Canyon.
