In London, Breathing Irregular combines theatre and dance in attempt to advance means of artistic expression. And this Friday, the New York Guggenheim series Art After Dark continues to challenge perceptions of how a museum should function, inviting members of the city’s music scene to party within its formidable walls.

Art & Music: An Evening with Composer John Adams at Lacma, Los Angeles Monday, February 1
John Adams’s 1987 Nixon in China has become one of the major operas of the last century. In LA tonight, Adams will host an intimate evening discussing his music. Excerpts will be sung by the Long Beach Opera.

Breathing Irregular at The Gate theatre, London Monday, February 1 to Saturday, February 27
Breathing Irregular is a performance-based piece of dance and spoken word about the human drive to survive intriguingly taking its inspiration from emergency service calls. Tonight is the world premiere.

I Want To Live Forever at Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, Milan Monday, February 1 to Sunday, February 14
I Want To Live Forever is a show of sculptures, installations and prints from the contemporary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. This exhibition includes the best of her figurative and abstract paintings, as well as showcasing her wonderful interactive installation, Narcissus Garden, first seen at the 33rd Venice Biennale.

As London is preparing for the invasion of fashion heavyweights from the world over from February 18, Harrods offers a civilized start to what is soon to become a hectic time in town: a breakfast introduction to their S/S10 designer jewellery collections.

Assistant to acclaimed artist Gonkar Gyatso, Eiko Honda has been charming the British art world with her own side projects for some time. Tobias Zehntner’s Zeitfenster is the first in Lightwall’s new programme of outdoor video installation interventions showcasing emerging artists. Honda’s directorial debut within this is her first independent step, marking her out as one to watch.

Art After Dark: First Fridays at the Guggenheim, New York Friday, February 5
This series toasts the end of its five year run with a performance from special guest Chromeo. Head down to commemorate and hope for a swift return of First Fridays.
