Summary

This week, we toast the past, present and future in a non-stop round of celebrations. Berlin celebrates its cultural institutions; London celebrates the Forties and its red lipsticked retro style; Los Angeles celebrates the original punk filmmaker; and New York celebrates Penny Arcade's bad reputation.

Penny Arcade, Bad Reputation Book Launch at Le Poisson Rouge, New York – Monday, January 25
Penny Arcade plays with the standard format of a book launch party, inviting Debbie Harry, among others, to entertain at her book launch performance gala. Promising special guests, erotic dancers, and a night of music, this is one literary event not to miss.

Now You Can Do Anything: The Films of Chris Langdon at REDCAT centre, Los Angeles – Monday January, 25
The first "punk filmmaker" Chris Langdon's fantastic films challenge our perceptions of art and image. Created in the early Seventies, these films have been out of circulation for some time and are being resurrected and brought to the attention of a new generation.

The Long Night of the Museums, Berlin – Saturday, January 30
For the biannual Long Night of the Museums, 70 of Berlin’s museums stay open until midnight and beyond across the city. There are seven shuttle buses operating for free on the night, running between venues. A single ticket gets you complete access to all participating museums. A highlight on any culture vulture’s calendar.

Anniversary Party at MKII, London – Saturday, January 30
MKII gallery and studio space in east London launched a year ago and rapidly became a well-respected force on the London fashion and art scene. This weekend is their one year anniversary and they are celebrating by opening their doors for a night of live bands and art video installations.

The Blitz Party at Village Underground, London – Saturday, January 30
The Blitz Party recreates a Forties air shelter and invites "handsome servicemen and glamorous land-girls" to a night of nostalgic fashion and frolics. Previous events have been a huge success and are always rammed full of dedicated Forties impersonators – a night of pure escapism.
