Three eagerly awaited annual events alongside the unveiling of two fantastic artist projects this week. Lazarides Gallery has collaborated with Southwark’s sinister Old Vic Tunnels to bring us Hell’s Half Acre; Frieze Music 2010 presents Hercules & Love Affair and Baby Dee; The Barbican is host to the magnificent Future Beauty Exhibition, a look over Japanese fashion from the last 30 years; Iceland Airwaves presents its 2010 installation and The BFI presents the 54th London Film Festival. All this in the week Frieze opens in London, it’s a busy one!

Tuesday 12th October – Hell’s Half Acre, The Old Vic Tunnels, London
From October 12th Lazarides Gallery presents a series of installation interventions at the Old Vic Tunnels. The maze of eerie tunnels will be transformed into a large-scale interpretation of Dante’s Inferno for a week by a group of emerging artists.

Wednesday 13th October – Iceland Airwaves 2010, Reykjavik
With past highlights including The Shins, The Flaming Lips and Hot Chip sharing the stage with emerging and established Icelandic and international music talent, Iceland Airwaves has become a stand-out music festival. Set against a backdrop of geysers and waterfalls, host city Reykjavik offers trips to The Blue Lagoon in between after-parties and some of the most exciting and unique music around. This year’s highlights include For A Minor Reflection and Hercules & Love Affair, and Dazed & Confused are media partners for 2010’s shenanigans…

Wednesday 13th October onwards – BFI London Film Festival
The 54th London BFI Film Festival opens this Wednesday. The UK’s largest public film event runs until the 28th giving Londoners the chance to appreciate new cinematic offerings including Darren Aronofsky’s eagerly anticipated Black Swan starring Natalie Portman and In Your Hands by Lola Doillon starring Kristen Scott Thomas. Alongside the screenings are public talks with cinema’s stars and a variety of special events and conversations.

Friday 15th October – Opening of Future Beauty, 30 Years of Japanese Fashion, Barbican, London
Curated by Akiko Fukai of the Kyoto Costume Institute, Future Beauty explores avant-garde Japanese fashion from the 1980s onwards. The comprehensive list includes Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto alongside less obvious choices such as Matohu and Tao Kurihara. There is also an eclectic line up of events around the exhibition – a look at the future of design and performance, film screenings, community based fashion project Disruption and much more.

Friday 15th & Saturday 16th October – Frieze Music 2010, London
On Friday 15th Hercules & Love Affair perform at Debut in London Bridge as part of Frieze Music 2010, with support from Telepathe and Hype Williams. On Saturday 16th harpist and pianist Baby Dee is performing with the Elysian Quartet at Shoreditch Church.
