JW Anderson: “The Devoured and I, S/S11 collection is based upon three photographers, and their view on subcultures in the 1950s through to the 1970s: Danny Lyon, William Gedney and Karl Heinz Weinberger. It’s about youth and adventure across an unknown land; love, love lost, a rattle bag of textures.”

Both Lyon and Gedney are known for immersing themselves in the worlds they photograph. For Lyon it was American bike culture – he joined the Chicago Outlaw Club, traveling with them and documenting their journeys. William Gedney’s trips through Kentucky, San Francisco and India captured intimate portraits of the communities he came across. Weinberger meanwhile, spent his time photographing subcultures in Switzerland, groups of teenagers disinterested by the society around them, influenced by American exports such as James Dean and Elvis. The mismatch of youthful, exuberant and rebellious influences will make for an anticipated collection from JW Anderson.
