Robot No.5Artwork by Karl Lagerfeld

We take a closer look at Karl Lagerfeld's artwork from last season's S/S14 show, documented for the first time in a new book by Steidl

Karl Lagerfeld’s set for the Chanel S/S14 show was curated in every sense. Inspired by the idea of a gallery, he lined the walls of the Grand Palais with 75 pieces of Chanel-influenced artwork: a tongue-in-cheek display that ranged from a gigantic robotic bottle of Chanel No.5 to a set of ladders built from the same iconic chain as the 2.55 quilted bag. Lagerfeld's cubist take on the house archive cited Wassily Kandinsky, Jackson Pollock, Claes Oldenburg and Marcel Duchamp as key inspirations, while a vintage colour chart from the turn of the twentieth century also influenced both the installation and the collection. The pieces are now held in the Chanel archive, but can be seen together for the first time in a new book, published by Steidl. To mark the release, AnOther takes a closer look at some of our favourite pieces from the show.

Chanel Art by Karl Lagerfeld is out now.
