Celebrating the new issue of AnOther Magazine at a glamorous New York happening

On September 15, AnOther Magazine celebrated the launch of its new issue and Maiyet’s S/S15 collection with a rooftop happening hosted by Thomas Hayo at his loft apartment at an iconic address on the Bowery.

In 1958, a young Mark Rothko moved into the building and by the early 1960s artist Wynn Chamberlain became resident of the top floor loft. Here contemporary artists such as Frank O’Hara and Ted Berrigan gathered alongside Andy Warhol who, in 1964, screened his first movie to a small private audience including film pioneer Jonas Mekas. The movie was called Sleep. In the lead role was artist and poet John Giorno who had become a resident, remaining one to this day. From 1975-1981 Beat writer William Burroughs lived in a room in the building where he entertained the likes of Allen Ginsberg, Lou Reed and Patti Smith.

The AnOther Magazine launch party paid homage to this extraordinary history, community and creative hub. Guests including Naomi Campbell, David Beckham, Cat Power, Annabelle Dexter Jones, Kyleigh Kuhn, Erin Wasson, Tabitha Simmonds, Glenn O'Brien, Dustin Yellin, Brooke Candy, André Balazs and Leigh Lezark were treated to an evening of entertainment. The rooftop was transformed with lanterns and mismatched industrial style furniture; Warhol’s Sleep was projected onto a wall and artist Robert Montgomery’s artwork Sentinels was installed on the roof.

The legendary John Giorno gave a mesmerising performance of a poem that he had started writing downstairs in his apartment on his 70th birthday called Thanks for Nothing. “I want to give my thanks to everyone for everything and as a token of my appreciation I would like to offer back to you all my good and bad habits”.

Special thanks to Maiyet and Mannetech as well as to Cloud Catering, Bai5, Pampelonne, Peroni, Legend of Kremlin, Starr African Rum, Pasternak wine, Andrew VanWyngarden (MGMT), Mimi Xu, Epson, Paul O’Reagan and Arman Nafeei.
