This week’s AnOther Lover Helena Benjafield lives in London, where she works for Intrepid fashion agency as a photographic producer. Helena loved Jacob Holdt’s book, United States 1970 - 1975. Holdt is a Danish photographer who, in the spring of 1970, set off to Canada, to work on a farm and then to hitchhike to Chile where he intended to support Salvador Allende’s democratic struggle for social justice. But on his way through the United States, he was held up at gunpoint by young black men and instead spent the next four years involved in the black struggle.

Why did you choose Jacob Holdt’s book?
After I bought this book I couldn’t put it down. There’s an intimacy to a lot of the images that makes them enchanting. The subject matter is also extraordinary, and Holdt has an incredible eye for composition and colour.

What's the last thing you bought?
A Rolling Stones LP- Their Satanic Majesties Request.

What's your most treasured possession?
Some photographic slides of an American family that were taken in the 1950s. I found them on Ebay. They arrived in an amazing old metal box and the images are all beautiful.
