We're celebrating winter this Happy Monday with these beautiful images of snowflakes, captured in breathtaking detail

This Happy Monday we're embracing the wintery weather by celebrating some of its most beautiful offererings, snowflakes – captured here in minute detail using macro photography. Some of the first close-up images of snowflakes were taken by American photographer Wilson Bentley, who began shooting the "tiny miracles of beauty" in 1885, going on to photograph thousands in an effort to prove that no two are ever the same. Now, thanks to the increasingly impressive quality of zoom lenses available, Bentley's point has been proved magnificently by a number of modern photographers, including Alexey Kljatov, Andrew Osokin and Mark Cassino whose work can be seen here. From perfectly chiselled hexagons to delicately embellished stars, these perfect icy formations are guaranteed to captivate and cheer.

Happy Monday! #anotherhappymonday
