This week Liberatum invites you to travel to Istanbul for a jam-packed three days at the Istancool cultural festival, Hannah Barry Gallery takes up its summer residence in a sculpture-filled car park in Peckham, Bethnal Green town hall is decorated by works from east London artists, Johnnie Shand Kydd takes us to Naples with his photographic tribute to the city, and Transition Gallery presents the latest issue of Garageland magazine, complete with cover by Mark Titchner and text from musician Joe Hood.

Wednesday June 30 – Bold Tendencies IIII at Hannah Barry Gallery, London

Leaving the first two days free, this week officially kicks off on Wednesday. Bold Tendencies is an annual, summer-long sculpture exhibition held by Hannah Barry Gallery on four floors of a disused car park in Peckham. The exhibition space also boasts a café & Campari bar.

Wednesday June 30 – Siren City: Photographs of Naples by Johnnie Shand Kydd, Estorick Collection, London

For those not brave enough to venture to Peckham, fear not, for there is another great London opening in Canonbury Square. Johnnie Shand Kydd has been documenting the history and character of Naples through photography over the last eight years, and a collection of this work––50 black and white images––finally sees the light of day at the Estorick Collection.

Thursday July 1 – Bethnal Green Town Hall Opening with Arts Admin

Bethnal Green town hall has been restored to its former Edwardian glory as a luxury hotel with apartments and rooms. The owner invited east London-based artists to apply for a commission scheme to create a series of works for the building. The winning works, chosen by a prestigious art world panel, will open to the public at the town hall from Thursday.

Thursday July 1 – Transition Gallery launch of Garageland Magazine

The first Thursdays of the month are always manic in east London, as the majority of galleries stay open late. Transition is no exception, and this Thursday the gallery, whose current show features work by Michael Ajerman, plays host to the launch of the new issue of niche art mag Garageland, which  features a cover by Mark Titchner.

Friday July 2 to Sunday July 4: Istancool Festival, Istanbul

To finish the week off, Pablo Ganguli, director of Liberatum, brings a cultural festival to Istanbul to toast Istanbul’s title of European capital of culture 2010. The line-up includes Hanif Kureishi, Gore Vidal, and Zaha Hadid, and AnOther Magazine, the festival’s collaborative partner, will be hosting a dinner over the weekend.
