Art history graduate Kimberly Ovitz showcased her A/W10 collection during New York fashion week. The detailed textures, exquisite fabrics and subtle-yet-unusual patterns demonstrate her appreciation of minimalist art and design, as well as a fascination with the equestrian lifestyle she was exposed to while growing up. The various internships Ovitz undertook at designer houses and magazines from the age of 14 have given her a true understanding of modern, sophisticated fashion.

I see a strong aesthetic in your work – minimal and androgynous, but also a feminine warmth. What are your inspirations in general when designing?
Minimal art and design, equestrian lifestyle, the daily life and the Japanese culture constantly inspire me.

Any inspirations for this particular collection?
I was struck by photos of the Brown University students between the 1900s and 1940s in the alumni magazine, and the collection reflects two opposing themes: nostalgia combined with an optimistic modernism vis-à-vis the Matrix.

Is there a particular fashion designer you have been inspired by?
Martin Margiela, Rick Owens and Ann Demeulemeester.

The fabrics of your pieces are delicate and beautiful. Where are they sourced?
In Italy, Japan and Paris.

You have achieved so much at such a young age. What do you see yourself doing in 10 years’ time?
I'd like to focus on the now and still have a successful thriving business in 10 years.

What is the main stockist for A/W10 in Europe?
Net-a-porter.com
