And so the fashion cavalcade has moved to its final destination, and Paris welcomed the crowds with French panache and very unsettled weather. Here we continue our daily round up of highlights: today AnOther's fashion editor Agata Belcen takes us through the first day of Paris, including grungy re-recordings of Kylie Minogue soundtracking Dries Van Noten, a handbag debut for Rochas and a whirlwind arrival at Mugler.
Model – Yumi at Gareth Pugh. Her asian/european mix of features were perfect for the show. And as she walked, there was a looseness to her limbs that made it appear as if she was floating.
Music – Amy Winehouse's Back to Black and Kylie Minogue's Can't Get You Out Of My Head were well re-recorded with a grungy male vocal at Dries Van Noten. Matthew Stone did the music for Gareth Pugh - a very poignant Crying Over You recorded dramatically in Spanish. At one point the rain thundered down on the glass roof - it worked so well that I thought it was an intentional part of the soundtrack!
Invitation – A very fine liquid silver sheet for Dries.
Detail – The fabrics at Rochas were very sumptuous. Especially the swathes of taffeta wrapped around the arms and draped behind as in a 50s couture show.
Hair – The accentuated dark roots at Dries.
"Fabrics at Rochas were very sumptuous...swathes of taffeta wrapped around the arms and draped behind as in a 50s couture show."
Make-up – There was a wet, bloody red, smeared around the eyes at Gareth and what looked like a semi-formed teardrop.
Bag – First season of bags for Rochas.
Shoes – Silver pumps at Dries Van Noten.
Accessories – The Noel Stewart veils, and headpieces reminded me of medieval hennins - like in Petrus Christus' Portrait of a Lady.
Moment – We were late arriving to the Mugler show and couldn't make it to our seats, but we had a great view because we were standing with the models as they finished walking down the runway and were queuing up for the finale. They were joking around with each other, dancing, larking about. Azelia Banks – whose music was the soundtrack to the show – arrived late too and was standing with us.
