“My knees were under my desk but my mind was very much on holiday,” explains senior fashion editor of AnOther Sofia De Romarate, “Dolce & Gabbana’s S/S12 bodysuit took me out of Old Street and plonked me on a beach in southern Italy in the 1950s.”

For S/S12 Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana once again paid reference to their roots, however for this season they drew upon them in a big way with their "Bread, Love and Italian Beauty” entitled collection. From the Mambo Italiano soundtrack sung by Sophia Loren that blared out at their catwalk show, to the outdoor market vegetable and flower-inspired prints, pasta shell jewellery and plastic wicker sandals – the spirit of Italy came loud and strong. Citing an idyllic summertime in 1950s southern Italy as their starting point, where better to set the shoot for their S/S12 womenswear campaign than in a sun soaked, picturesque small coastal town in Italy starring The Italian Family; actress Monica Bellucci and models Bianca Balti and Simone Nobili with an abundance of relatives young and old.

Here we speak to De Romarate about Dolce & Gabanna’s “exuberant lust for life” and who she thinks would pull of their S/S12 bodysuit well…

It deserves to be worn with heels and in some gloriously inactive and glamorous setting.
