Serge Gainsbourg Doll, by the Felt Mistress
Serge Gainsbourg Doll, by the Felt Mistress

Rachel Smart and a felt Serge Gainsbourg doll.

This week, Rachel Smart, linguist and blogger loved a very suave representation of Serge Gainsbourg in felt, with characteristic smokey cigarette in hand.

Why did you choose the doll?
I'm a huge Francophile and adore Serge Gainsbourg. I first met his creator, the Felt Mistress through Brix Smith Start from punk-rock band The Fall and co-owner of Shoreditch boutique START. I interviewed Brix just before Christmas and she raved about her work. The first felt piece I fell in love with was Serge, but I now admire the whole collection.

What's the last thing you bought?
Two Alexander Wang-inspired maxi dresses. I'm tall and it was a joy to find simple jersey maxi-dresses long enough to wear with heels.

What's your most treasured possession?
A vintage bracelet, which my husband bought for me when we lived in London. It has tiny round discs, each containing a picture of an iconic 20th-century character: James Dean is next to Elvis, who’s linked to Bruce Lee and Albert Einstein. It’s super delicate.

What's your favourite online shop?
I adore Colette. They’ve managed to successfully replicate the cool feel of their Parisian boutique experience in an e-shop: quirky wallpapers, achingly cool soundtrack and a perfect mix of products, make it a pleasure to visit on a daily basis.
