From 27 – 29 May Liberatum with Istanbul’74 and AnOther Magazine will host Istancool 2011, the international festival of culture. This year’s line-up features Terry Gilliam, Sam Taylor-Wood, Courtney Love, Tilda Swinton, Haider Ackermann, Kirsten Dunst, Sophie Calle, Michael Stipe and many more for a three-day extravaganza of art, design, fashion, film, music, literature and architecture in Turkey. Istancool is also the Favourite Thing for Demet Muftuoglu who is the festival’s creative head and AnOther Guest Lover for the next two weeks. Dividing her time between New York and her birthplace Istanbul, Muftuoglu is also the Art Director of Vakko, Turkey’s leading fashion house. Here, on the week of the festival, we speak to Muftuoglu about what she’s most looking forward to and what makes Istancool such special a event.

What makes Istancool such a special festival? 
It aims to connect creative talents from around the globe with Turkish talents.
 It also gives our young generation a platform to meet and to be inspired by a multi-national and multi-disciplinary cultural exchange programme that connects, inspires and gives energy.
 
It also gives me such pleasure welcoming you to my city...

What are you most looking forward to from Istancool’s 2011 line-up and why?
That is such a difficult question as we have a truly great line-up this year which I am very excıted about!


What has been your most memorable moment from last years Istancool?
Every moment had a special meaning. The one that stands out most is to see Gore Vidal, Daphne Guiness, Leyla Umar and Terence K in a single picture.

What is your essential item that you will be taking to Istancool?
My blackberry. 

What was the last thing you bought?
Gareth Pugh jacket from V2K Designers.

Do you have a favourite online shop?
La Garconne and SSENSE.
