AnOther turns to the Finnish furniture designer's archetype of modernism for this week's most-Loved shot

We at AnOther have advocated many a space-saving initiative in our fortnightly Supreme Interiors column – but none so chic, one might argue, as the aptly named Bubble Chair, which was selected for the Loves stream this week by AnOther Fashion Assistant Jayme Miller.

The Bubble Chair was created in 1968 by Finnish furniture designer Eero Aarnio, whose innovative and daring new designs for interiors, from the Ball Chair to the Screw Table, have come to characterise the bold new world of 1960s design. Formed of acrylic and moulded in a a semi-spherical shape within a solid steel frame, it's a staple of modernist, space-age furniture. What’s more, it’s both timeless – Aarnio's is an iconic and unrepeatable moment in design history – and functional – creating an incomparably cosy hiding place for all who are so lucky as to curl up within it.

The bubble has recurred at intervals throughout visual culture of the past 100 years; Melvin Sokolsky famously placed models within them for his 1963 Bubble Series, created for Vanity Fair; Michael Jackson named his beloved pet chimpanzee after them; fine artist Luke Finesien recently built a gallery installation out of them. Aarnio's rendition, however, might well be our very favourite. Intrigued, we sat down with Miller to ask her more about her choice...
