The day after its new flagship store opened in New York, we celebrate Maiyet's exquisite cuts and international collaborations

Amid the stylish chaos of New York Fashion Week, exquisite cuts met artisan flair at the opening of Maiyet's flagship store last night. At a party attended by many international fashion luminaries, the brand celebrated their first dedicated retail space in Manhattan at an event which proved the perfect showcase for their designs, which marry European chic with stylistic flourishes sourced from small artisan communities in the likes of Peru, India, Columbia, Indonesia and Africa.

"Guests were entertained with a stunning performance by Say Lou Lou, the beautiful Swedish sisters who performed a set of five songs from their forthcoming album"

Maiyet represents one of the most exciting fashion collaborations of the moment, spanning leather jackets, hand crafted in Italy and embossed with studs created in India, cashmere woven by communities in Kashmir, and extraordinary wood and bone jewellery created in Kenya. It is a truly international endeavour while the brand is based in New York, their collections show at Paris Fashion Week, and they have expanded beyond the traditional design remits through their partnership with Nest – an independent non-profit committed to training and developing artisan businesses in small communities around the world.

Last night, personalities including Jefferson Hack, Suzy Menkes, Natalie Massenet, and Robbie Spencer enjoyed delectable French 75 cocktails and Maiyet's own whiskey with the brand's founders Paul van Zyl and Kristy Caylor and Maiyet marketing head Lauren Hurst, against the backdrop of the A/W13 campaign video starring Daria Werbowy and shot by Cass Bird. While admiring the new collection, guests were entertained with a stunning performance by Say Lou Lou, the beautiful Swedish sisters who performed a set of five songs from their forthcoming album. All the while, Ryan Rice of Brooklyn hotspot Roberta's served up Beau Solaris oysters and Northern Pacific sturgeon caviar to the hungry revellers.
