In the latest episode of AnOther’s podcast series Where It’s At, Jefferson Hack is joined by Raul Lopez, founder and creative director of Luar

Being at the epicenter of the New York underground club and fashion scenes for the last two decades, Raul Lopez has always had an outsized influence on fashion. This year marks 15 years since he founded Luar (his name spelled backwards). Lopez showcased his Spring/Summer 2026 collection in New York last month. “The hottest designer on the New York Fashion calendar,” says Jefferson Hack. The collection “both alighted on Carnival as an expression of resistance and protest through extravagance, of joy as agitation, undoubtedly a reflection of an American condition in fashion right now,” writes Alexander Fury in a review of the show. “The messaging is as potent in 2025 as it was back in 1520, when Carnival began.”

In the second, fun and poignant episode of Where It’s At, Lopez tells Hack about his story: growing up as a queer Latin boy in Williamsburg in the 90s, the humble and hard won beginnings, the importance of community and fandom – from Beyonce, Solange to Madonna. His ride has at times been wild. Lopez’s story is a fashion fairytale worthy of its own TV series.

Season 2 of Where It’s At is available now on podcast platforms.
