We dissect Nicolas Ghesquière's futuristic vision of the eighties, as seen at his S/S17 show

For Spring/Summer 2017, Nicolas Ghesquière took a turn towards the covetably corporate at Louis Vuitton – not only because he staged his show within what will become the new Louis Vuitton store on Place Vendôme, but equally because the fabulous suiting that appeared on the runway was the sort you might fantasise about wearing for a high-powered office job. There were Thierry Mugler silhouettes strapped and spliced into modernity alongside Michael Jackson leathers and sci-fi shimmer: a whistle-stop tour of the eighties as viewed through a thoroughly contemporary lens. We feel like Ghesquière's woman would be found reading Philip K. Dick in Colette – and we'll be pulling up a (Charles Rennie Mackintosh) chair to join her.
