As Milan fashion week begins, seasoned regular Neil Barrett shares his top five places in the city
Neil Barrett may have taken his show to Paris but his heart still lies in Milan. The British minimalist designer has been based there ever since his first job at Gucci, and his European standalone store is situated by Via Santo Spirito, in the heart of the city's luxury shopping district. As Milan fashion week begins, we caught up with the hybrid-connoisseur to discuss his top five destinations.
1. Flair, Viale Regina Margherita 30, Milano
"A very unique destination in Milan, in contrast with the many other antique and mid-century design/furniture shops in town. Filled with great original 20th century decorative collectables for the house."
2. Pisco, Via A. Bertani,16, Milano
"Newly opened this year, Pisco is an unpretentious fish restaurant just beside the hang-out area of Corso Sempione. It is like being by the Amalfi coast, but by the Milanese park."
3. Museo Bagatti Valsecchi, Via Gesù, 5 Milano
"It’s a historic house museum right in the middle of the shopping district showcasing the large, eclectic collection of two brothers. From 15th and 16th century art pieces to unusual, almost Tim Burton-like contraptions."
4. Carlo e Camilla in Segheria, Via Giuseppe Meda, 24 Milano
"An ex-sawmill that has been converted into an unconventional and very popular restaurant. The interior maintains the artisan feel, while the food is curated by a young team of chefs."
5. Gelateria Solferino, Via Solferino, 18 Milano
"My favorite dark chocolate ice-cream made with water, but not sorbet."
