Jen Hanley, aka Gnarlitude Jen, splits her time between Florida and the Lower East Side of New York and writes for several magazines including Love and Street Carnage, as well as her own website, Gnarlitude. As this week’s AnOther Lover, she has chosen a nautical-inspired helmet by the French helmet company Ruby, the same firm who collaborated with Karl Lagerfeld to create his tweed helmets.
What do you do?
I'm primarily a writer. I just designed a ring. I'm working on some shoes and T-shirts with some different companies. One of my favourite things is buying and selling all of the crazy vintage killer-finds we score in Florida.
Why did you choose the helmet?
I love Ruby. They are constantly coming out with new designs for their helmets and the nautical stripes were just too perfect, combining my French nationalism and love of motorcycles all in one. I can just picture how great it'd look while speeding down the road on my bike. I just need to sort out some cash to buy myself one someday.
What's the last thing you bought?
A vintage monkey fur coat and bag/muff that I found recently in LA after years of searching. It was cheaper than I'd ever seen in my entire life and definitely the score of the century.
What's your most treasured possession?
It's for sure got to be all of my dearly departed friend Dash [Snow]’s art, zines and books.
