In 2009 Giorgio Armani sailed around the Croatian coast of Dalmatia. He docked his boat in Split on the Eastern coast of the Adriatic sea, in the hope of finding inspiration for his next collection. The following year, his Couture A/W10 show featured camel, gold and toffee tones to the tune of “A play on Amber”, as though the Croatian beaches had been encapsulated within the tuck of a satin drape or the twinkle of an amber brooch. His A/W10 womenswear collection notably showcased orange mohair and vibrant red ponyskin, echoing the Croatian sunset.
This season, the womenswear collection once again demonstrates bright hues against a signature black backdrop. Contrasting fur and leathers – brushed calfskin and striped and spotted pony skin – in a colour palette of coral pink, burning orange and Schaparelli shocking pink.

AnOther took this season’s footwear to the Croatian coast of Split to photograph them against the same rocky beach on Marjan Hill that Armani visited in 2009. Often called “The Lungs of the City,” Marjan Hill leads up into a pine forest surrounded by sea and sand. The scenic destination is known for its sweeping views and tranquility: “It is a small hill where people run and cycle, ,” explains photographer Bruna Kazinoti. “I shot the shoes at seven am and there were already people swimming. It’s a great place to jump in the sea. Placing the shoes on the beach stones allowed the golden toes and bright colours to shine, making them seem alive.”
Featuring a double-buckle Derby shoe, a calf-skin loafer and a lace-up creeper with a vibrant red front, the collection features androgynous styles with a subtle heel, low platform and graphic colour combination. “I like the red shoe with the golden point; it is like a piece of furniture,” Kazinoti comments, “it is simplicity with feeling.”
