This season, casting director Rosie Vogel shared her thoughts on her model choices for the London show season with AnOther. Working closely with the designers to find a line-up of girls who embody the season’s collection, she says she always has an “ideal” girl in mind for each and then works back from there...

Moschino Cheap And Chic...
As this is the sister line, we wanted it to be a little bit younger – girls that are fresh, genuinely pretty, with a youthful and healthy look. My ideal girl was Anais Pouliot, who actually opened the show. She’s got such a great face and wonderful lips; she looks dollike. She has the ability to look innocent and sexy at the same time – a bit Lolita.

House of Holland...
This season I think Henry’s grown up – the clothes reflect that and I wanted the girls to do that too. I thought the colour palette – lots of reds, blues and yellows – would work best with darked haired girls and slightly sharper features. We had a lot of girls like Dempsey Stewart and Patricia Van Der Vliet who had luckily just come from doing Calvin Klein in New York where Guido had given them both haircuts and dyed their hair really dark. My ideal girl for this show was Sara Blomqvist – the models needed to be very cool in the clothes and Sara was perfect.

Topshop Unique...
It was my first time doing Topshop and a big change for the label with Kate Phelan as creative director. This season it was a lot more grown-up and wearable. I always think that the casting is superb at Chloé, Céline and Stella – the girls look like they could walk off the catwalk wearing the clothes and that’s what we were trying to do at Topshop. My favourite was Lara Mullen who opened the show because she is my favourite British girl at the moment and she really embodied what Topshop is trying to do. She’s doing incredibly well, with shows like Calvin Klein and Prada.

Louise Gray...
Louise Gray is always fun! It's as much about her personality as it is about their look. We had some super girls: two of my favourites are Kelly Mittendorf and Hannah Holman who are great and really fun. There’s always so much going on with the collection and show that the girls have really got to hold their own. Louise Gray girls are not wallflowers!

Michael Van Der Ham...
I think for Michael the girls need to be just very beautiful – quite classic but fresh and really pretty. The body shape for him is quite important to best show the proportions of his clothes. This season he was quite particular about the hair length – he wanted them all to have long hair because he wanted a Veronica Lake-style hair. The girl who opened is one of my favourites: she’s called Hanna Sorheim and she is absolutely adorable and has that lovely freshness, with the little spattering of freckles across her nose.

Meadham Kirchhoff...
Working with them is very different to working with anyone else – they work in a very interesting way. They really don’t mind about having named girls, in fact, they would prefer that they were new faces. They’ve all got to have a really good, strong walk and just have a great attitude. Ajak Deng was definitely one of my favourites – she’s so much fun, really gets into it and was so brilliant on the day."
