Italian shoe maestro Giuseppe Zanotti’s Slim 2.0 revives a cult design, now with over 300 hand-set crystals that glint like undersea treasure

The earliest jewellery ever discovered wasn’t gold or gemstone at all, but fish bones. In prehistoric times, hunters wore bones, teeth and claws from their kills as talismans of luck and prowess. For Italian shoe maestro Giuseppe Zanotti – famous for his sculptural, jewel-encrusted heels – this idea of turning humble scraps into ornamentation has long been second nature; during a seaside dinner in 2004, Zanotti sketched a fish skeleton on a tablecloth. That discarded bone was reborn as the original “Slim” sandal – a sensuous metal fishbone jewel draped across the foot’s arch, which made a memorable cameo as Samantha Jones’s footwear of choice for a sushi buffet on Sex and the City. It encapsulated Zanotti’s penchant for finding beauty in the unexpected, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Now, 21 years later, Zanotti has revived this cult design as the limited-edition Slim 2.0. The new iteration comes in sleek black or ivory nappa leather with a modern pointed 105mm stiletto heel, and its signature fishbone ornament is encrusted with over 300 hand-set crystals that glint like undersea treasure. There might be plenty of fish in the sea, but this one’s a real catch.
