The designer Marc Jacobs has famously talked about “The Prada-ness” as an abstract quality of design integrity and throbbing desire that twitches behind the best of that brand’s offerings. And part of that is also its distinct aesthetic vocabulary, with a wink-wink nudge-nudge touch of self-reference that tests the memory span of fashion insiders. Take this spazzolato-leather pump, from the Spring/Summer 2025 collection, for instance. Its jutting fins recall Prada’s hot rod-inspired footwear from Spring/Summer 2012, while its violet shade debuted a quarter century ago, as part of the Spring/Summer 2000 ’Sincere Chic’ collection.
