Available now, the pastel-hued release is designed to “capture the pure essence of summer”
Few items are as ubiquitous with luxury travel as a gleaming silver suitcase from Rimowa. First founded over 120 years ago, the German luggage manufacturer’s sleek and functional designs have long been a favourite of the fashion crowd and celebrities alike – including none other than counter-cultural icon Patti Smith, who starred in her first-ever fashion campaign for the brand last year, aged 74.
This spring, Rimowa’s cult luggage gets a pastel-hued rework for a new release, which aims to “capture the pure essence of summer”. For inspiration, Rimowa looked to the sights and aromas of rural Provence, France, arriving in two colours for the release – a gentle purple shade inspired by lavender, which grows in wild abundance in the region; and a citrus tone, which channels the “simple pleasure of a cool glass of lemonade on a hot day.”
Alongside the colourful update of Rimowa’s signature polycarbonate suitcase, the release also includes a selection of bags and accessories in the same seasonal shades. These include ridged tote bags in two sizes, iPhone cases and, for customers based in Asia, a crossbody bag in the shape of a miniature Rimowa suitcase. A version of these luggage minis first went viral back in 2019, when they appeared in a collaboration with Dior Men’s by Kim Jones.
To celebrate the launch, Rimowa has unveiled a pastel-themed campaign shot by London-based artist and photographer, Alessio Bolzoni. Starring artist Sangwoo Kim and model Cannelle, who also both hail from London, the dreamy studio-shot visuals evoke the feeling of jetting away to an unspecified sun-soaked locale. As we approach the first summer in two years free from Covid restrictions – fingers crossed – the release couldn’t arrive at a better time.
