The fashion house revealed its stripped-back, 60s-inspired collection in a film released today

This afternoon, Saint Laurent uncovered its Spring/Summer 2021 collection. The pieces were revealed in a short film, shot entirely in a vast desert expanse, with windswept models stalking the dunes as if they were on the Paris runway.

The collection itself was stripped-back and feminine, with plenty of feathers, soft shapes and sheer draping. According to creative director Anthony Vaccarello, the designs come from a place of serenity, serving as a salve for the chaotic events of the last 12 months. “I wanted to focus on the essence of things,” he said in a statement. “I didn’t want anything bleak or heavy.”

There were also some nods to 1960s – “uncertain times, just like today” – with contoured eyes, sleek mod hairstyling, and flashes of florals mixed among the brand’s trademark inky palette.

The 10-minute film added to the collection’s overall mood, offering viewers dream-like escapism with its unplaceable setting. “The desert, to me, symbolises that yearn for serenity, open space, a slower rhythm,” said Vaccarello. “The clothes are also softer, [and] the spirit of the collection is more gentle, stripped back.”
