Willy Vanderperre, who photographed the actor and activist Indya Moore for AnOther Magazine A/W19, is selling the limited edition print to raise money for the queer and trans charity

Willy Vanderperre has launched a print sale to raise money for the Chicago-based organisation Brave Space Alliance, a black-led organisation that works to support queer and trans individuals. The image on sale is of the activist and actor Indya Moore, who Vanderperre photographed for the Autumn/Winter 2019 cover of AnOther Magazine.

Moore has long been an advocate for trans and queer individuals and people of colour, and has used their fame – most notably they appeared in the television series Pose, about the ballroom scene of 1980s and 90s New York – to elevate and empower others. As protests against racism and police violence have been staged across America and the world following the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer, Moore’s voice on social media and among the protestors has proven a vital, informative and galvanising force.

“Information provides autonomy when we have none. Investigate your reasoning behind the things that harm you the most, so that it hurts less – we’re able to protect ourselves more when we know who’s causing the pain or where it’s coming from. For me, information freed me and protected me, helped me understand myself. Questioning things, believing in something more, depending on myself to survive,” Moore said in AnOther Magazine A/W19. “Community is important. Stay dedicated to the truth. Be dedicated to history. And every single person that is born, every single person that exists on this planet, has a responsibility to affect and influence anyone that they come to be in proximity to. Everyone matters. Everything matters,” they continued.

The photograph is being sold in a limited edition of 25, priced at $250/€220, with all proceeds going to Brave Space Alliance. “These last two weeks have been a wake-up call to people all over the globe. The pandemic called racism, in any shape or form, needs to be stopped,” Vanderperre wrote on Instagram to announce the sale. “While we wait and hope on actions from governments all over the world, we protest, peacefully, to speak up. Many people have an active role and a distinctive voice, one of them is Indya Moore. Their fight against injustice towards the LGBTQI+ is an example to all of us. Straight from the heart, well informed, honest and continuous. As a photographer, I had the honor to work with Indya. They are a beautiful and complete person.”
