In a special edition of our daily To Do Lists from AnOther editors, fashion director Katie Shillingford shares how she’s keeping her three children entertained in isolation – from introducing them to Prince to The NeverEnding Story

We at AnOther believe that in this unprecedented time of isolation, economic uncertainty, and social distancing, culture is more important than ever. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be publishing daily to do lists, curated by the AnOther Magazine and Another Man teams, as they share things to look at, listen to, watch, read, or follow, to get you through. Here, in a special edition, Katie Shillingford shares how she’s spending isolation with her three children.

Moving away from the Disney classics that are repeatedly requested by my children, I’ve been trying to get them into Prince. We’ve been listening to Raspberry Beret a lot – we watch the video on You Tube too because the cloud suit and green screen collage video is mesmerising! It’s making me really happy to hear a four-year-old hum the tune of Raspberry Beret rather than the theme tune to Frozen

For same reason as above I’ve introduced one of my favourite children’s films to the family, The NeverEnding Story. It still makes me cry with sadness and joy every time. The music by Giorgio Moroder is also quite special too! This film also reminds me of one of the first ever stories I shot for Dazed in 2007 with Daniel Sannwald, and Pierre Debusschere made a short film for the website – I think this is when one person ran the whole of Dazed Digital! We shot in the film studio in Frankfurt where The NeverEnding Story was made and where the models of Luck dragon, Falcor and the racing snail were still on display.

In an attempt to cope with three children when a nanny, school and nursery aren’t able to share the load I’ve been reading No Drama Discipline by Daniel J Siegel and Tina Bryson. I think some of these techniques which explain what is going on in the different parts of the brain might work quite well for some adults too! Also, one of my favourite children’s stories to read is I had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew by Dr Seuss. It’s a children’s surreal masterpiece.

We’ve been looking at space in various forms – you can explore the surface of Mars here – and we’ve also been watching zero gravity videos on YouTube, which are always mindblowing and a good way to pass time.
