Supernature. This issue of AnOther Magazine is an homage to the beauty and majesty of the planet at a pivotal moment in global awareness. Dedicated to the actors, artists and fashion designers – the cultural architects – redefining the environment of today, it is also a magazine about human nature. Our cover stars Laura Dern, Kelsey Lu and Lily Jameshave all pushed themselves to the extreme in a bid to expand the parameters of their craft, while Dries Van Noten and Christian Lacroix, two fashion masters, discuss their sublime collaborative Spring/Summer 2020 collection, and the need to evoke an exuberance Van Noten feels our times are lacking.

1. Be inspired by Laura Dern’s remarkable career – the recent Oscar and BAFTA winner has been on-set since before she was born. 53 years on and her on-screen presence expresses an extraordinary tumult of feeling and emotion: “I’ve spent 20 years playing the broken wounded girl who would never get a shot in the room,” she tells Hannah Lack. “And it’s kind of amazing that tides are changing and there are enough characters to play this whole other world – of what it means to be a woman.” Dern is photographed by Willy Vanderperre and styled by Olivier Rizzo.

2. Imagine living a life fuelled by feeling and passion with the inimitable musician Kelsey Lu. “Some days I wake up after working on something in the studio – I listen to it and it’s like I’m living in an alternate reality, another dimension,” she says. For AnOther Magazine, she shows another dimension to herself, photographed in our edit of the season’s most magical looks by Craig McDean, styled by Nell Kalonji alongside an interview by friend and fanLynette Nylander.

3. Consider actor Lily James’ most challenging role to date, in Ben Wheatley’s adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s Rebecca. “[The second Mrs de Winter is] in such conflict, such turmoil… It’s certainly the role I’ve inhabited the most. Even talking about it I get kind of breathless.” James is captured byCasper Sejersen, with styling by Katie Shillingford.

4. Delve into the vision of designer Dries Van Noten and couturier and costume designer Christian Lacroix, who explore the social and aesthetic contexts of their closely guarded collaboration: “I am still an independent soul,” Van Noten says, “not completely independent any more, but my soul and vision are still free.” AnOther Magazine was given free rein and exclusive access to the process behind the creation of this unprecedented fashion moment. The collection is presented here photographed bySam Rock and styled by Katy England, while both Van Noten and Lacroix spoke exclusively with Susannah Frankel before their collaborative clothes even hit the catwalk last September.
