In the interests of keeping you entertained this Easter, AnOther selects three of the best food-centric Instagram accounts
Easter is a time for eating and for scrolling – the former because of tradition, the latter because long instances of enforced family time can be difficult – and Instagram, our preferred social media platform du jour, provides a generous serving of both in equal measure. With the interests of entertainment in mind, then we’ve collected three of the best food-focused Instagram accounts to channel your attention more effectively, and to keep you entertained for the duration of your four-day weekend. Enjoy!
Taste of Streep @tasteofstreep
Meryl Streep’s talents are manifold. Over the course of her career the American actress has taken on roles so involved and so diverse that she’s now regularly referred to ‘the best actress of her generation’ – a title that, with no fewer than 19 academy award nominations under her belt, nobody is willing to dispute. What’s more, she has charisma in droves that most could only dream of: as legend has it, she originally applied for law school, but slept in on the morning of her interview, so took it as a sign that she was destined for other things. What a woman.
Until recently, however, she had yet to be transformed into a range of delectable foodstuffs – a fact that changed with the creation of magnificent new Instagram account @tasteofstreep. The artist responsible transposes the inimitable Streep onto a Bloody Mary, a bowl of macaroni cheese and a sushi roll – and our lives are immediately improved because of it.
FOOD FOR FASHION ZINE @fffzine
Founded by editor and art director Zac Bayly and Stacia Hadiutomo, FFFzine, or Food For Fashion Zine, is about as tasty a labour of love as side projects come. A celebration of food and clothes and all of the areas in which the two might (and can) overlap, the zine is a frenzied, chaotic amalgamation of the pairs’ most whimsical ideas – with considered contribution to its inaugural issue from the likes of John Waters, Twiggy, Maisie Williams and Richard Kern. Which makes for quite a line-up.
Alongside the zine’s printed manifestation runs the Instagram account – a vibrant, informed and often hilarious inside look at what the two get up to in between issues. Especially worth watching out for is their fashion week offering – an inspired pairing of the season’s strongest looks with the foods they most resemble, from which we’ve selected a few of our favourites here.
Famous Food @famous_food
Yoghurt De Niro; Leonardough Dicaprio; Prawn Connery; you might not have realised you need @famous_food, the Instagram account dedicated to blending the crème de la crème of celebrity and culinary culture to pun-laden effect, but just try resisting it. It’s worth following if only for the image of ‘Cardamom Cruise’ balanced precariously on an eponymous seed or ‘Dill Murray’ sprouting enormous sprigs of the herb from his upper lip.
