Brilliant culinary interpretations of contemporary artworks, courtesy of Caitlin Freeman and her new cookbook, Modern Art Desserts

It's Monday morning once again and, in our ongoing effort to eradicate Monday blues, we bring you these brilliant culinary interpretations of contemporary artworks, courtesy of Caitlin Freeman and her new cookbook, Modern Art Desserts. The pastry chef at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's Blue Bottle Coffee, Freeman has created tributes to a wide variety of pieces from the museum's collection – from a chequered cake channeling Mondrian's iconic Composition (No. III) with Red, Yellow and Blue, to a ribbon and bird-festooned box of Mexican wedding cookies inspired by Frida Kahlo's portrait of herself and her beloved husband Diego Rivera, from 1931. We hope these make you as happy – if not just as hungry – as they make us.

Happy Monday! #anotherhappymonday

Modern Art Desserts is published by Ten Speed Press and is available May 20.
