Who? Today sees experiemental Canadian artist Claire Boucher, more commonly known as Grimes, release her second music video for her track Genesis.

What? The mesmerising video is self-directed and features Grimes in various guises, accompanied by a gang, on a roadtrip across America, loaded with references to Japanese culture. A striking cyber-warrior, with pink plaits, pink talons, silver armour and white platforms weilding a sword is juxtaposed with a softer, pigtail-wearing Grimes, carrying a yellow snake.

"The video, mesmerising in its entirity, is a clever visual nod to Grimes ethereal sound"

Why? The video, mesmerising in its entirity, is a clever visual nod to Grimes' ethereal sound: hard meets soft; a rich mix of vocal elements and influences. The video follows Grimes' comments about the Russian government – the artist studied Russian literature at universitry – after their decisions on the well-documented Pussy Riot trial last week. "I went to school in Russia for a while, so I'm very familiar with it. It's funny to me because I think a lot of people are just realising now how f*cked up Russia is, and I'm not surprised at all that that situation is happening. I think it's something that happens more than people know", she said. " It's going to be a matter of time before things die off. But it's still a really racist, homophobic place."
