Summoning a Punk Spirit of Christmas with Johnny Thunders

The second instalment of Another Man’s festive advent calendar catalogues a selection of gifts embodying the essence of a rock 'n' roll dandy

Up next in Another Man’s Fantasy Advent Calendar, we’re presented with a collation of imagined presents bequeathed to quintessential icon of the early American punk scene; Johnny Thunders. Inspired by Thunders’ time as the guitarist of sartorially androgynous group the New York Dolls, the Another Man team has chosen to gift him many practical – yet undeniably glam – items that would be more than fitting for his time on the road touring.

A skull print Alexander McQueen x Globe Trotter suitcase could be filled to the brim with Johnny’s make-up kit, constricting leather trousers and signature skinny scarves; a look crying out to be accessorised with a studded Philipp Plein bracelet and plectrum necklace by John Varvatos. To carry his favoured instrument, only the finest ought to suffice for Thunders; so a Louis Vuitton x Fragment guitar case would also sit wrapped under his tree, with reading material for long tour bus journeys nestled beside it in the form of a 1950s Johnny Thunder comic book (the source of inspiration behind Thunders’ stage name). Finally, in honour of his post-New York Dolls reinvention as a rockabilly-esque dandy, a perfectly waxy potion to whip his hair into a loose 1950s quiff would be placed into his stocking via Triumph & Disaster at Selfridge’s Pomade – undoubtedly the perfect replacement for years of abundant hairspray use.
