An eclectic cast of international talent – from the on-the-rise to household names – assembles for Chanel’s latest campaign, which highlights the French house’s Spring/Summer 2020 eyewear offering. Photographed by Karim Sadli, the singer Angèle, actresses Isabelle Adjani and Margaret Qualley, and the musicians Sébastien Tellier and Pharrell Williams model five new designs. “Five eyewear designs for one single attitude,” says the house in a statement. “The elegance of Chanel, for asserting one’s own style with pride.”

Each pair was chosen to align with their wearer’s personality. For Angèle, a young Belgian singer, an oval style with “a necklace of grey faux pearls”, something of a house signature; for Qualley – who has risen to fame with a number of recent roles, including a scene-stealing turn in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood – a butterfly-shape frame, also featuring a string of pearls, this time in classic white. Adjani wears a large square-shaped black style emblazoned with the house’s name (to evoke the house’s jewelled hair slides), Tellier an XL style with tweed detailing, while longtime Chanel ambassador Pharrell Williams wears a black-acetate rectangular frame, with engravings once again evocative of the house’s signature tweed.

“A veritable manifesto of daring and self-expression, this powerful campaign, full of character, embodied by five leading figures in the art world,” describes Chanel. An accompanying set of films arrives in March – for now, a behind-the-scenes look at the campaign below.
