As the second installment in the series ‘Artist as Muse’, we present the American feminist artist Kiki Smith as photographed by Erik Madigan Heck in her New York studio. As a key figure in the rise of feminist art in the US since the 1970s, Smith’s sculptural and illustration work is imbued with cultural & political significance – echoing deep social commentaries on the subjects of AIDS, gender inequality & the Catholic religion.
Shot in the intimacy of Kiki’s studio and the overgrown surrounds of her terrace garden, Heck captures a rare insight into her personal environment – where found objects & archival works create a haunting serenity.
Kiki wears selected pieces by Dries Van Noten.
The series is presented in exclusivity here on A BLOG curated by, and at www.nomenusquarterly.com.
