Cedric Buchet for Vogue Paris: Hair by Peter Gray
Romping through the Collective Shift site this afternoon, I found myself marveling at the leaps and bounds digital technology has forced the fashion industry to undergo. Whereas 10 years ago, detailed information on the fashion talent behind the scenes of the powerful imagery we view in magazines was scarce. Today on any given photo-rep website you can cull a pretty accurate picture of the aesthetic of a given photographer or hair and make-up artist or stylist. Take Peter Gray's hair styling work as seen at the Collective Shift site. Included amongst the printed images from Vogue Paris, Numero, Gentlewoman, V , Vogue Italia and ID was a truly beautiful video directed by Gray in collaboration with Deborah Milner. Take a look for yourself and then continue on to revel in the compelling Inez and Vinoodh video section. With Neruda and Gabriel Bryne thrown into the mix, naysayers may find it ponderous but I'll take ponderous over vapid. If its just luscious fashion you crave, then continue on to revel in the compelling short films in Inez and Vinoodh section. Clearly its now an imperative for fashion creatives to really push the borders of their work into the moving image . That may very well be the lasting fashion shift of the emerging decade.
