Jerry O'Connell in the parody video Tom Cruise WANTS you to see! from Jerry Minor

*

p.s. Hey. Today, the most mysterious of this blog's d.l.s, namely V.K. aka Ton aka Subterranean Kid aka ... I forget the others, is back with the next chapter in his guest-hosting saga for your collective delectation. Do not take it lightly, and do tell him or her what you think or whatever else, please? And thank you kindly, sir or madam, whoever you may be. Tonight's the premiere of 'This Is How You Will Disappear'. I'm kind of jittery here, obviously. I guess I'll tell you what I was able to tell vis a vis our success or failure tomorrow. I'll be speeding a long today due both to some last minute work we have to do and my last minute nerves. Okay, ... ** Scunnard, Storming the Bastille would mean storming the Bastille metro station since a couple of foundation walls therein are all that's left of the venerable original, and, sadly, the Bastille metro station is not exactly a bastion of cool air, and given that I'll be sweating out BD here in Avignon, perhaps I'll storm the Palais des Papes? ** Empty Frame, Hey, man. Thanks for the well wishes. I promise not to solicit human sponges re: the BP spill during my post-show bows even if the tomatoes I'm dodging allow me to get in a word. Poor Patti, poor you, poor Patti, poor you, etc. Sounds like she was suffering from the classic American in Europe guilt thing. Okey doke, gotta run, but lovely to see you, man, natch. ** Wolf, That was a trippy sigil/art riff, pal. Or my heat delirium made it so. It was actually kind of nice here until yesterday when the winds went dead. You in the country yet? ** Math, Dude, month off, how awesome is that news?! Wait, zine ... you mean physical zine? Like print zine? Even if not, I want one somehow. Tell me how when how is a what. Uh, okay, that made sense. Long story short, just thrilled to bits that your art is going to occupy you for the foreseeable future. ** Colin, Yeah, EB's stuff is really swell, no? Oh, got your email. Hope you got mine. ** Pilgarlic, Yeah, I talked to Bradford. Pretty cool, right? You can't overstate his brilliance around me, trust me. Did you know he used to be a d.l. of this very blog for a long time before his stuff, well, took off, or whatever you want to call it? I don't know if he's post-tour. He said he's busy getting the new Deerhunter album ready to hit the world, so maybe he's in Atlanta for a while doing that. Thanks for well wishes for tonight. I'll break something, or I'll try my best to, man. ** David, Very glad you liked EB's art, of course. ** David Ehrenstein, Thanks, David re: the breaking leg. News tomorrow. I really hope you'll get to see it somehow at some point. ** Dooflow, Very happy to have occasioned EB having made you happy, pal. ** Joseph, Gourmet pizza, not bad. What makes it gourmet? Oh, I guess I can guess. I think that BN carrying all the LHotB books is pretty incredibly unusual, yes. There must be a very cool person working there. That's usually why that happens when it rarely happens. Oh, give a heads up when your Dorothea Lasky review runs. Look forward to that, and I'll try to scope the book in the meantime. Thanks for the luck. Luck to you in whatever needs luck. ** Oliver, Hey, Oliver! I'll have to watch that video a bit later, but it sounds amazing, and your taste is impeccable. Everyone, courtesy of d.l. Oliver and in his own words: 'Dropping in to share this video by Isao Hashimoto that plots all the nuclear explosions in the world from 1945-1998'. Thanks a lot, man. ** Alan, Hey. Oh, shit, I forgot those Bresson words of wisdom. I could have used them as ammunition back when it might have been possible to get Gisele to cut the birds. I fear our fate rests in an owl's claws. Thanks, A! ** Magick Mike, Hey, Mike! Always great to see you, and thanks much for the good premiere vibes. There is a big coffee table book thing in the works, but it's gotten delayed a bit because now we're doing the book/CD of the 'Jerk' radio play and a book of Gisele's photographic portraits of the dolls we use in our work first. The big book will be third. I don't have an answer to your general questions this morning due to pre-premiere brain preoccupation, but I'll pass them along. Everyone, here are two questions from d.l. Magick Mike. If you have any thoughts/ suggestions, please speak up. (1) '@anybody who happens to read this, a general question: so, i have a 5000 word story that i wrote as a collaboration with an artist friend, and now i'm wondering what to do with it. i would, in most circumstances, probably just self-publish it as a small book, but the paintings are 65% in color and the color looks really good and i don't have the capital to print a full color work right now. where are some places i could submit it either as a stand alone piece or like that it could be published (whether online or in print) in color?' (2) 'do you know of any books, in English that offer criticism/theory in relation to French poets like Royet-Journoud & Albiach & that Post-'68 "writing" crew? I've read the Norma Cole edited "Crosscut Universe," but most of what's included in that I would consider texts in their own right, rather than commentary.' ** Syreearmwellion, Cool thanks. It's always awesome when the blog hits a peak. There's going to be a Matador package with a hotel room attachment? Interesting. July 9th, yikes. I don't know if I can myself together in time to jump on that immediately. Shit. I'll do my best. Word is the GbV classic line-up is going to tour for sure, so, worst comes to worst, ... ** Bernard Welt, Blogger was acting coo-coo yesterday. Really great news about your book being sent off and hopefully ready for the hopefully light-fingered copyeditors. Well, I'm going to grow a beard, frizz my hair out a bit, maybe pile on a few pounds, and head to Asheville for a Mexican meal asap then, clearly. ** Killer Luka, Thanks for the 'merde'. I'll pass it along to all and sundry. I'm so with you on the total awfulness of 'A Single Man', but we are in the minority, around this joint at least. Ice in my pants ... what a splendid idea! Post-haste. ** Stan_cz, Thanks for the thumbs up. We'll do our best. ** Bollo, Sorry the rain flaked out. No chance of rain here, sadly. Maybe a flash flood. But I guess that would require rain first. We're fucked, basically. ** You-x, Really glad you liked EB's art, man. Oh, the song 'Avignon', yes. In my heat damage, I thought you were saying they had a song called 'This Is How You Will Disappear'. Yes, 'Avignon' is a lovely song. I might even have it on my iPhone. Wish you were here too, J. Someday. ** Christopher/ Mark, Your 'merde' is much appreciated. Have you been here for the Festival? Were you here as a participating artist? Yeah, the Festival is a blast, and it's such a pretty, ultra-French town. Still, I'm sure Miami has its own charms. Say that ocean. Avignon seriously needs an ocean. ** Chris Goode, Aw, thanks a lot, Chris! You know precisely the mood and worries and hopes that come along with premiere day. I will tell Gisele and Jonathan of your well wishes. How is work and everything with you? ** Pisycaca, Oh, yeah, I'll tell you about the conversation assuming the thing we talked about ends up being a thing for real. Sorry to be so mysterious. (Psst, I'll tell you either way in your ear or your symbolic ear, but don't tell anyone else.) I am very thrilled about GbV reunion as you correctly imagined. Love to you! ** Trees, Hey, Trees. Now that is an interesting coincidence. More dark is very good. Well, to me. Someone who saw our theater piece a couple months ago and then sat in on the rehearsals last night said it's gotten very dark. I think it was a compliment, but I'm not sure. Mm, I don't think I know that band. Hm, that does sound very intriguing. I'll watch/ listen to the video later. Thanks a lot, T. ** _Black_Acrylic, Thanks for the good wishes, Ben. Man, I really think Holland might just win the whole fucking thing. Crazy. ** JW Veldhoen, Break a gam, ha ha, nice. Gam ... I wonder what that words derives from and why it no longer rolls off many tongues? If this picturesque little town had a half-decent English language bookstore, which it absolutely does not, it seems, I would. ** Steevee, No, I didn't know Burgher's work back then. In fact, he would actually have been quite young at the time. No, I got the interest in sigils from my best friend/ roommate Joel who was very into Chaos Magick at the time. He lent me a book on sigils by Peter Carroll, and that was a main source. That Pitchfork review made me quite excited about the Big Boi album. How is it really? ** Little foal, Cold bedroom ... sigh. Sorry, but that sounds pretty utopian when you're doing the p.s, in a room that has to be 98 degrees F at the moment. Well, speaking as a beloving friend, I second your thought of parsing some of your humanitarianism in your own direction. Not that thinking about suicide isn't an important thing to do, just judiciously and within reason. Nice book haul in the mail, and of course I'm pleased that 'SiH' was bringing up the rear. Totally understand about flaking on the university appointment, I would have done the same thing, wrongly or rightly. Very glad you liked EB's work, course, Me too, obviously. Breaking an egg sounds like a lot more fun not to mention easier than breaking a leg, and I'll go do that. Thank you, Darren, and lots of love. ** Lux, Hey, man! Great to see you, and big congrats on Vice's wisdom in spotlighting your blog. Let me add this joint's directive. Everyone, the multi-multi-talented artist and d.l. Lux has a blog you may or may not know about already. It's killer, and Vice Magazine recently did a pick to click thing about it, if you need further encouragement. It's here, and I suggest that's where you now go. Hm, no, I don't know any books re: teaching journalism skills, I don't think. I just read great examples, and I let the editors of the magazines I wrote for teach me stuff along the way. I've been meaning to do another post displaying recent works and things by d.l.s for quite a while. They're quite labor intensive posts to put together, and the only reason I haven't done one of late is my overcommitted life, but when I get back to Paris, I'll do the next one. Haven't read 'IB' or 'Richard Yates' yet, no. Clawing to read them both. Alex Niedenthal's review of the latter has me very excited. Take care, man. ** Inthemostpeculiarway, Yeah, I want to hear what you made of 'Valerie ...', of course. I have a fan, but it only helps a little tiny bit. This novel isn't really giving me problems so far. It's just very hard to get right even if I know what I need to do to get it right. It might well start causing me problems as I reach the later parts, but it's not the problem causer that, say, 'Guide' and 'Period' were yet. Those fought me the most. We can't use a projector because the black outs are to hide people moving stuff on and off the stage. We're stuck with what we have for now, but when the run of Avignon shows are over, the plan is to rethink those parts and try something else. Thanks about 'SiH', of course. I think I'm going to avoid that 'Let the Right One In' remake like the plague. Ongoing best possible all wishes on the taming of your annoying ear. Yesterday: After I did the p.s., Gisele and I had to do a big public press conference about our piece. Luckily, Gisele did most of the talking. It seemed to go okay enough. I think the audience was too scorched and spaced out from the heat to put up a fight. Then we went to work again, tried to fix the birds and black out problems again, with not much luck. The birds never do the same thing twice. It's a mess, and the only hope is that they'll either shape up starting tonight or the audience won't notice or care that the end is a mess. At about 6 pm, we did the general rehearsal, which is the final run-through before the premiere. There were about 60 people in attendance, most of them photographers for the various newspapers and magazines that will be reviewing the show. So the show was kind of drowned out by millions of clicks. The people that were there seemed to like the show a fair amount. We'll see. Then we had the usual post-rehearsal meeting to go over the mistakes and things, and then we all had dinner at this nearby restaurant. I had the 'vegetarian plate' which they made up on the spot and for which they randomly threw a bunch of vegetables onto a plate. It was okay. I followed the Spain-Germany WC match on a Twitter feed on my iPhone and announced the ongoing results to the table. I was happy Spain won, but others weren't. Then the air of Avignon filled with car honks and yells of pleasure and stuff from the Spain supporters. At about 11:30 pm, I walked home, lay beside my whirring fan, and gradually drowned myself to sleep. Gimme your Thursday. ** Bill, After NYC, it won't seem that bad here, probably. It's all about the wind. If there's wind, it's kind of nice. If not, it's hell. There is no wind today. Enjoy the Gysin show. I want to hear all about it. ** Amccartney, Hi, Alistair. Thanks for the good wishes. It's gulp city over here today. Yeah, I think that beginning with the ... third (?) Harry Potter movie -- the one directed by Cuaron -- the movies have been really wonderful. I'm even extremely excited for the new one. Have a pleasant day and evening, man. ** Elijah, Hey! Oh, this is total surprise and a total honor! Thank you for not minding my cooptation of your work. I love your work, and have been scheming to get it on my blog for a while, ever since Scott T. introduced it to me. You know, even though I didn't recognize the photo in the image inspired by it,I was almost sure that was Scott in the drawing. Anyway, yeah, thank you a lot for your great work and for visiting here. Take care. ** 'Stoopid Slapped Puppies', Thanks a lot, Nick! You great, I hope? ** Schlix, Thanks, pal. The owl needs the positive energy more than the falcon. The falcon just eats something, hops around, leaves. Not too hard. The owl has to do its little land on a branch, look around, fly away routine in a specific amount of time, and it doesn't understand time the way we do, and, well, positive energy is very welcome. ** Postitbtreakup, The fall delay isn't such bad news, yeah. Definitely say yes. Uh, yeah, I guess that submissions post idea would be a cool, sure. My brain is a bit cooked this morning, and I can't quite sort out how that would work -- my fault entirely. But sure. Tell me a little more precisely what I would need to do on my end. Yeah, good idea, man. ** Brendan, Hey. Cool beans. Oh, please, my book simply must stand aside for Gandhi, goodness gracious. I don't know that gallery, but I'm a little out of it about the newest L:A galleries. Great news. Culver City is still the happening locale, I reckon. ** Misanthrope, Yeah, I need to do the p.s. early here if I can because every minute that passes brings with it another degree in the temperature, and the room in which I'm forced to write the p.s. has no air-conditioning and a huge fucking burning skylight to boot. Bird vibes most welcome. I'd say there's about an 8% chance tops that the birds will do what they're supposed to tonight. Charming. ** Okay, I've got to get out of this fucking steam room I'm writing to you in right now. This was a spaced out p.s., and I'm sorry. Tomorrow, the blog post might arrive a little late by an hour or a few hours 'cos I have something I have to do in the morning. Dig V.K.'s post thang today. Keep crossing a finger or two for 'TIHYWD'. See you in triumph, abject failure, or somewhere in between tomorrow.
