I'm not normally a fan of an animated GIF as a homepage but famed Aussie jeweller Elke Kramer's GIF activity is particularly charming, especially when it comes to this still here where gloved hands adorned with Elke Kramer jewellery are making polite conversation with each other via apples, roses and a spot of sherry. How CIVILISED!
Sadly when I went to see Elke Kramer's new collection in Sydney, my hands were not gloved up and instead, I had to make do with a bad nail polish jobbie and some unsteady camera action. How UNCIVILISED!
Still, I captured the sum of Elke Kramer's new parts... a continuation of the bold Deco-esque shapes that resemble mechanical structures, which have then become enrichened by an array of enamels and textures. Speckled and marbled to resemble many a natural surfaces, there's an organic quality to each individual element but when they all come together in say a chunky bangle, they become quite imposing which prevents the jewellery from ever being fey/hippy fare. Even the tassels used on earrings and necklaces look strong and beefy.

This is definitely a 'party' ring scenario where you load your fingers up on one hand and can't really do anything except hold a drink in the other...

Elke Kramer has plenty of other strings to her bow (Illustration, art direction, graphic and web design and zine-publishing) but I'm quite astonished that within jewellery she has this amount of output. Then I spy her bags and again, similar elements from the jewellery are carried over and fortified by supersoft leather in shades of pistachio, pale pink and black...
