These photographs of ‘spirits’ were taken by a controversial medium William Hope (1863-1933). He became interested in spirit photography after capturing the supposed image of a ghost while photographing a friend. Hope used multiple exposure techniques to render the appearance of ghostly apparitions. Although his deception was publicly exposed in 1922, he continued to dabble in the dark arts
