Ornithological artist John Gould named the small songbird after his wife in 1844, although she did not hold the title 'Lady'. By 1992, the species was declared endangered in the wild (though common in captivity), and in the same year Catwoman stuffed one into her mouth in Batman Returns, perhaps to raise awareness for their plight.
