Christian Louboutin and David Lynch collaborate for the high heel connoisseur's debut nail colour

Christian Louboutin’s red paint can now be bought by the bottle, with the launch of his new nail polish line. It seems like an inevitable case of synergy, as it was in 1992 that Louboutin borrowed his assistant’s nail varnish to paint a pair of black soles bright red, birthing his signature look.

In true Louboutin style, this is not just any nail laquer. The Rouge Louboutin is sealed by a dramatic spiked 20.5inch lid, referencing the designer’s Ballerina Ultima shoe, his tallest ever heel created in collaboration with surrealist heavyweight David Lynch. “The molded glass bottle is inspired by architecture, namely classical balustrades found in European buildings from the 17th and 18th century,” explains Louboutin. For the campaign video, Lynch and Louboutin take the viewer on a trippy journey through planet Loubiville, where jagged bottles fall from the sky reminiscent of a René Magritte painting.

This is not the first time that Louboutin and Lynch have blended high heel and film reel. In 2007 they collaborated on an exhibition at La Galerie Pierre Passebon. “Over the years, I observed several signals pointing me towards beauty,” Louboutin continues. “I realised that people’s image of my brand could already incorporate beauty and it became a natural next step.” The range is set to expand to thirty colours in September, costing £36 each.
