We discover Maison Martin Margiela's latest wallcoverings in collaboration with Belgian interior design firm, Omexco

Who? Signature Margiela trompe-l'œil visuals and reinterpreted motifs make up the new range of Maison Martin Margiela wallcoverings, released in collaboration with Belgian interior design company, Omexco. From geometric marbles and floral bouquets to distorted herringbone, the series weds Margiela's signature optical trickery, cotton and stark white with Omexco’s innovative and sustainable production methods, harnessing solar energy and recycled fibres to create their designs.

What? The series consists of five styles: La paésine, La mosaïque, Le rideau, Le point de croix and L’optique. Their release follows the Maison Martin Margiela exhibit at Milan’s Salone del Mobile, where the house presented Interior Couture, a selection of pieces from their artisanal line, shown alongside the artworks that inspired them, such as L’Arlequin tapestry by Alain Cornic. There is a trend gathering pace within fashion and home interiors just now, as Raf Simons has partnered once again with Kvadrat on a fabric line.

“Wallpaper seems a natural vector for development and a novel way of dressing up our friends interiors” — Maison Martin Margiela

Why? "Since the opening of our first shop in Tokyo in 2000, we wished to explore other domains such as interior design and some of its most emblematic items,” Maison Martin Margiela states. “Wallpaper, as well as furniture or design objects, seems a natural vector for development and a novel way of dressing up our friends interiors, as we do in the very Maison.” Margiela’s Object and Publications range often merges humour and elegance to create Avant-Garde streamline products that are both amusing and stylish. Past releases have included door-stopper eggs, magnifying glasses and their satirical take on the Home Shopping Channel.
